APS member and Curator of Philatelic Studies at the British Library, Dr. Richard Morel joins us on Stamp Chat to share "from start to finish" the stamps for the newly independent nation of Tanganyika in East Africa. Topics covered are the design process (which are approved and rejected), semiotics: the symbology and cultural meaning of the stamps that were approved; the printing process and implementation of the stamps. Join this lively, interdisciplinary discussion that brings the point home that philately is a subject rife with clues, history, and meaning beyond the scope of just on field....it is a story of anthropology and Morel encourages more of us in the hobby to share this and subsequently bring others, namely academics, to the table, so to speak.
