Travel through history exploring the evolution of Russian philately from the time of theRussian Empire to the Russian Federation.
Course Description: Some collectors may identify a stamp as “Russian”. Another, more knowledgeable collector, will call the same stamp by the specific political entity that issued it. Which collector are you? During this odyssey that will span 300+ years, discover how historical events impacted “Russian” stamp issues from various eras; Russian Empire, Russian Civil War, Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic, Union of Soviet Socialist Republic, and Russian Republic. Points of interest to be visited during your journey include; postal, back-of-the-book, occupation, local overprints, and foreign offices issues. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn the historical and political stories behind Russian philately.
Intended Audience (who should attend): Anyone wishing to learn about Russian philately
Instructor Bio: John Seidl has been collecting stamps for 50 years. He is a member of the Rossica Society of Russian Philately and the Ukrainian Philatelic and Numismatic Society. He is also the President of the International Society of Worldwide Stamp Collectors and the President of the British Caribbean Philatelic Study Group. As an active participant in our hobby, John is a member or officer in dozens of local, national and international philatelic organizations, ranging from; The Royal Philatelic Society London to the Cobb County Stamp Club in Marietta, GA. His interest in stamps and postal history of Russia began as a child and continues to develop. He has been a member of the American Philatelic Society for 30+ years and has been attending the Summer Seminar for most of those years.
