The Executive Director of the Manuscript Society for the last 11 years, Shirley Sands, is retiring as of July 31, 2021. The Manuscript Society is now soliciting interest in filling the Executive Director position.

As a kindred organization of American Philatelic Society (APS), the Manuscript Society, has a long history of compatible interests with those of APS. It is dedicated to the preservation, collection and study of manuscripts, documents, and historical materials. Its journal, Manuscripts, and other publications, the Manuscript Society News, and Digest, each with its own editor, are published regularly and contain scholarly articles (including those of philatelic interest), commentary, news and reviews pertaining to such material. Yearly meetings planned in part by the Executive Director, such as the upcoming extensive visit to Historic Williamsburg in 2022, include exclusive tours of libraries, museums and centers for the study and preservation of history. The Manuscript Society facilitates the exchange of information among collectors and scholars while encouraging the highest ethical standards. It has for many years administered the award of Maass Research Grants to doctoral candidates in the fields of history and the humanities. Some Manuscript Society members are philatelists with interests in postal history.

APS members knowing of anyone with a background in the humanities, capability in computer applications and websites, and skills in communication with an active membership, and who might be interested in applying for the position of Executive Director, are encouraged to contact the Manuscript Society Search Committee Chair, Ellen Myers at Myers@manuscript.org.
